[Herky] Coach's lawsuit assails Iowa AD's record on gender equality - Yahoo Sports

I've wondered if this is a case of the U big wigs standing behind their hire
so that they don't look bad. They'll stick with him regardless the outcome.
Must save face in the short term, long term results be damned.

I worked in state government for over 32 years. Not the regents, but this
was very typical behavior.

I'll stir the pot. I think the comment was a surmise that if there was a
problem, male athletes might want to go elsewhere.

IMHO, the male athletes could care less. They are kids wishing to play
ball. I don't see the politics as a big issue. Just MHO, and I've been oh,
so out of touch before.

I would tend to think that the lawyers at Iowa must not be too concerned
about this or Iowa would not have given Barta the new contract they did.
They would wait until this was settled.

I could also make the argument that it might help recruiting because they
know the AD will stand up for the student athletes and will not allow allow
a coach to abuse the players.

Jim your last statement makes no sense to me. You say that male recruits may
not want to go to Iowa because cheating officials have mistreated female
athletes (their peers). I have not seen any allegations that there was any
mistreatment or cheating by officials against any athletes. What are you
talking about?

Seems like it would be better to wait until all sides have been heard and
the case is settled rather than making these types of statements based only
on one side of the story.

If true, it's a careless and major affront to Iowa women.

This sexist, chauvinistic wrong, if true, could hurt Iowa recruiting of top
prospects, women and men.

Yes, men too. The brightest follow the news and most don't stand for
mistreatment of their female peers by cheating university officials against
any athletes!
