[Herky] Where Iowa football ranks statistically in the Big Ten after week one

Scott,
That is so true but I do not remember it being discussed here.
KFz had stated previously that the bowl game practices were where the backups and non-seniors got the most attention and saw most improvement.
It may have hurt player development and put us at a disadvantage compared to teams that fid have the practices snd a bowl game.

I've wondered how the lack of a bowl game last fall messed with the team. Did they go through normal practices and have a simulated game (scrimmage)? Or did their season just end when Missouri backed out? That's a lot of practice that would have gone by the wayside if they had nothing after MU pulled out.

Interesting that if we don’t do well on offense it is our fault, no credit to the Indiana defense. But if Indiana doesn’t score, credit to our defense.

Everyone needs to remember this was the first game of the season! Need to get the rust off. We never show much on offense in the first game of the season. Typically it is against an inferior opponent and we don’t need to. The fact we quickly built up a big lead against a quality conference opponent was truly a blessing. Even playing against Indiana we didn’t have to show much on offense.

I agree that there is much to improve on. But just remember it was the first game and non-competitive for much of it. I’m expecting continual improvement in play calling and execution as we move through the remaining nonconference schedule.

Go Hawks,

John

Fellow Hawkeyes,

Sorry to be sour grapes or a crybaby but I rewatched the game last night and am still disappointed with our team.

Even though the scorecard looks good it hides quite a few blemishes.

Honestly, I thought our offense was bad and take one 56 yard run off and our running game was bad.

SP was no better than what he was a year ago even after a year of service and a full pre-season practices.

Not sure where all those mechanics lessons have gone.

Not being able to complete 50% of passes is not good and against a better defense we may need him to make the plays at QB and am not sure he is the one, yet.

We barely did anything offensively in the second half.

But, our defense was awesome and will keep us in every game.

Hopefully, someone else has seen improvement and give me some encouragement. 🙂
