Regarding the offense:

Even though the Hawkeyes scored over 80 points last night, the offense
seemed out of sync most of the game. As in all previous three conference
games, the opposing guards are putting a lot of pressure on Bohannon and
Moss. Neither one of them are handling the pressure very well. As a
result, it’s really difficult to run and execute good plays. Both Moss and
Bohannon have been throwing soft passes and are not moving to the right spots in
the offense to make plays. As Jeff Napier points out, they are hand-cuffed
and can’t get penetration. Rather, they frequently dribble in place or hold the
ball while the other players stand around as well. They have had games
against lesser opponents where they ran well, ran plays well with crisp passing
and offensive positioning. I just don’t think this team can handle the
defensive pressure in half-court that they will see in ALL Big Ten games.
Also, I see a lot of frustration in Bohannon’s face and when that happens, he
shoots quick threes or tends to turn the ball over as his frustration leads to
loss of concentration. And when he does make turnovers, he is dropping his
head, ala Jeff Horner in his early years at Iowa.

I think the game plan from all Big Ten teams will be to get in the shirts
of Bohannon and Moss. I think Dailey should get more time at PG, maybe
even start him there to see how that goes. That will help Bohannon stay
fresh. But the coaches need to fix both the defense AND offense.

that talked about how the coaches told them not to over help (MI game) and make
sure that they can cover the guys in the corner. Yet that player said that they
over helped and could not say why. So while I am not excusing the
coaches most of this falls on the players. They need to go out and give full
effort (which I don't think they are always doing) and follow the coaching
(which they are not doing on a consistent basis)

On defense they cannot stop
penetration. If the guys on the corner do not drop down to help then it is often
a lay up basket. If they do drop down then the guard kicks it out to the corner
and an open three eventually results.

I am not sure what the issue is
on offense but it looks to me like the other team can guard everyone on Iowa,
except maybe Cook, one on one with out help. If you can do that you will
struggle to score consistently. I tried to watch for penetration by Iowa
and I think I saw it happen one time.
