<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">June:</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">I am really showing my age here.  Watched Sharm's teams, along with Ralph's, Ravelings Lute's. For me those were the most "fun and exciting". Was at the field house when Mount went for 50 and the Hawks still won. Saw the "Six Pack" go over 100 several times.  Was at games when Sam Williams would be mentioned over the PA and the crowd would stand and cheer.  The game has changed-players are more talented now from an offensive standpoint and the Hawks have some talented offensive players.  But the present Hawks do not rebound and from my perspective do not play a whole lot of team defense.  Denying the wings and post is a lost art.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">Hey, what do I know, I am just an old retired ex high school basketball coach.  But from my perspective the defense (man to man) and rebounding are lacking and it makes Iowa hard to watch at times.  I used to never miss a game either in person or by watching tv.  Now, I can take it or leave it and that is sad. I am taking the grandkids to the Purdue game in January and I am afraid taking them out to eat on the way down will be the highlight.  Hope I am wrong.</div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Thu, Nov 30, 2017 at 10:43 AM, Scott Werling <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:scw969@hotmail.com" target="_blank">scw969@hotmail.com</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">

<p class="MsoNormal">Since the meltdown that was Lickliter, I cannot watch an entire game.  Sure if they have a hot night I may watch.  But playing the exhibition season and non-conference teams like iwo Jima Junior College,  and Little Sisters of the Poor,
 they go play some one decent and get their collective asses handed to them.  <u></u>
<u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When is this trend going to stop.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Originally I felt Fran was a huge upgrade in coaching.  Now it seems he can recruit much better talent but I question his bench coaching ability.  He can get a T with the best of them, but it doesn’t seem to help.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">What is the answer?  He’s in his 6^th year?  This are his players, but even the fundamentals seem lacking.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black">I was a huge BB fan most of my life.  In the 70’s when I lived in Iowa City I went to all the home games and some road games.  I met many of the Hawkeyes from the 70’s because my aunt had them
 over to her house often.  In the 80’s I lived in Michigan and would travel to East Lansing and Ann Arbor when the Hawks played there.  I watched all the games through the 90’s up into the 2000’s.  However during the latter Alford years, and the Lickliter years
 I started to lose interest.  Now I rarely watch games; if Iowa is on TV I will turn to the channel to check on the score but I never watch a game all the way through.  I will watch the NCAA tournament, but that’s about it.  I can’t believe how I’ve changed. 
 I used to say “in football season, that is my favorite sport, but in BB season I like that the best”.  I’m kinda disappointed in myself considering what a huge BB fan I used to be.   I wish I could get back that BB passion again.<u></u><u></u></span></p>
