that our receivers just could not get open for anything but short stuff.
CJ is/was not afraid to go down field. But you have to have someone
there. Our best burner, Jermicick(?) Smith didn’t ever make a

C.J. got 30 starts in his career at Iowa. I think he was 100% healthy in
about 3 or 4 of those games. Less than 80% in about 20 games. When
he first started in 2014, he threw long passes, down the middle, on several
occasions. In 2015, he played with a sports hernia. In 2016, he was
banged up in about every game. I think the passing schemes were set up to
account for his lack of mobility and to keep him protected. With a new QB
with a strong arm, and a new OC, I think they will open up the pass game quite a
lot, but still go with the 50-50 play selections that Ferentz wants. They
really need some receivers who can get separation.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P></DIV>

game will look similar no matter who we get. This is the part of the
offense that Kirk Ferentz owns. But even there we have seen some
differences and changes under Brian Ferentz that have I think made it
better. The biggest issue with the OL is that we have guards playing
tackle. That is a recruiting/development issue not a scheme issue. I see no
reason for radical changes to the running game. I see no reason for not wanting
to run at least 50% of the time.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

very different under the two OCs. I don't think Kirk has a set opinion in
this area. I don't watch much pro football but I think New England has a pretty
good passing game. Brian Ferentz worked with the TE's at NE so perhaps he
brings parts of that passing scheme to Iowa. He also has exposure
under both OCs so I think he can see what works and what does not. He is
also much younger so I think he will be more open to trying different things. I
think Kirk wants a balanced offense and I don't think he is locked to a specific
type of passing scheme. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
