<p dir="ltr">I meant all state universities, not just in Illinois. But anyone who lives in Illinois is aware of the many, many scandals and examples of poor governance in Urbana and not just in the athletic department. At one time, they were admitting out-of-state students preferentially over top Illinois students in hopes of being a more world class institution on the backs of Illinois tax payers. Northern, Southern and Eastern are suffering from dwindling enrollment right now, I don't know much more about it but it's a problem that may need more than an academic to solve. Of course this is Illinois where corruption is a way of life.... <br>
I am not attacking people in academia. I just earned my PhD for Pete's sake. I do research and teach and publish. But I do believe in innovation and looking for fresh solutions to old problems. We have the same problems in health care. If someone is a good clinician, they often get promoted into leadership and it's a poor fit. We have started looking at more non-clinicians in leadership roles for that reason. That is all I am trying to say here. </p>
