Not much interest indeed. Baseball is simply bigger in the South, maybe bigger than basketball.

Not much interest on Herky, but the baseball team has had a really nice season.
They played 4 “win or go home” games in three days in the Big Ten Tournament, and finally lost to Michigan. The winner was to go to the finals. The Hawks simply ran out of gas and pitchers. Brody Brecht was tried as a starter vs. Michigan because no one else was available. He was awful—gave up two or three walks and a hit in 1/3 of an inning. He throws really hard, but has less control than Iowa quarterbacks. Hopefully, he will find the magic in the upcoming years.
Before the tournament, Iowa’s 33 wins couldn’t get them even one vote in the polls. Now even with 36 wins and a really good last several weeks, I doubt they will get in the NCAA. The B1G just doesn’t have enough prestige when compared to teams in the South and West. Too bad. Iowa has good enough pitching to beat a lot of good teams.
I suspect a B1G team needs to win 40 games to garner any consideration for post season play. That’s tough when they play only 50 or so games a year.
