The other thing of interest for this year is the weight changes.  Kemerer going from 157 to 174.  Wilcke going from 197 to 184. Young going from 165/174 to 157.  Kem did not wrestle but Wilcke and Young looked really good to me at their new weights.  I think their ceiling may be higher than I thought before.

Yes, it was a good showing. I watched it on Flo. Lugo is 5’5” (a stretch) and the guy he wrestled is almost 5’11”, so I can see why he had some issues there.



I like our depth, for sure. I am hoping it is not needed.



One other thing – the Lee/DeSanto 1-2 punch reminds me of the Thomas Gilman/Cory Clark out of the gate (hoping for similar results) – very fast and powerful out of the gate.

Iowa dominates in winning the two matches yesterday.  They had three back-ups wrestling as  Warner, Stoll and Kemerer did not wrestle.  There was one negative though as Pat Lugo lost to to an unranked wrestler from CSU Bakerfield (who I think did qualify for the NCAA tourney last year).  Lugo is really short for his weight class and in the few matches I have watched struggled against taller guys.  This was the case last night.   Not the best way to officially start your Iowa career but I am sure he will learn from it.   Lugo is critical is Iowa is to have any chance for a team title. He needs to be a top 5 type guy which many think he can be.  Next week Iowa wrestles Princeton who has the #1 ranked guy at 149 so I guess he will have a chance to redeem himself.



We already know this but Spencer Lee is a special wrestler. The problem is that he techs the other guy so quickly that you don't get to enjoy him much.  He just makes it look so easy. Good thing he has such good partners in the practice room to give him come competition.
