Yes, Gable has Cass' number. Ironic that he is named 'Gable' yet not going
here! It will definitely be a dual to watch over the next 5 years. 

 

Just a pitch to everyone - if you like to see Hawkeyes win, follow Iowa
wrestling this year and the next few years...we are positioned very well and
with some good depth. It just so happens that our area(s) of concern last
year (133, 141) will have some great starters and room players/depth for
this coming year. It will be a PSU chase for sure, but we look VERY good!

Cass just won the Greco title to become only the second wrestler to win the
Triple crown two times.   The more I see him the more I think he could be
really good. Unfortunately for him Gable Stevenson will also be a FR
heavyweight at MN next year.   He is the Spencer Lee of the heavies and most
are predicting four titles for him.   While Cass has now beat all the other
heavies Stevenson has dominated Cass the couple of times that I have seen
them wrestle.

Cass is going to be a tremendous heavyweight for us...great timing as well!

 

As for Brands, son of the Assistant, nephew of the head coach - a good one
as well.

Fargo is a huge wrestling tourney in July each year.  Iowa did pretty well
in both Cadets and Juniors freestyle.  Hopefully some of these young guys
will continue to develop and become Hawk stars down the road.  For the not
too distant future incoming freshman Nelson Brands and Anthony Cassioppi did
very well.  

 

Brands wrestled at 160 and finished third. His only loss was to the
champion.  He is aggressive and fun to watch but has some development to do.
Most think Brands will need a couple of years before he will see the
line-up.

 

Cassioppi is a heavyweight and took home the title. He was very impressive.
He pinned or teched everyone.  He is not very impressive at this point
physically but he shows good strength and moves very well.  He should be
ready to step in after his redshirt and contend for AA status.
