[Herky] Iowa Defense

[Jeff Napier]

Cook was trying to play defense (though it was poor defense)  and getting in foul trouble. Now he plays very little defense and stays out of foul trouble.  This team needs leader on defense.

In this image, the Hawks are in a man-to-man defense. Cook is 12 feet off his man and Baer is trailing his man my 6 feet on a break to the hoop. It didn’t end well as Cook’s man drilled a 3-pointer. Poor spacing, getting easily beat off drives to the paint, poor recognition. Cook isn’t even looking at his man to see how the play is developing.
