What about a change in assistants?
Typically when teams have had seasons similar to Iowa basketball season, a there is a change of an assistant. For Iowa, it would be the coach who is suppose to be in charge of defense.

Those three are very believable suspects to leave.  I agree.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kriener  or Pemsl left.

Listening to podcast with Tom Kakert  and he seems to think (he does not know anything for sure) that there will be some changes with 2-3 guys leaving.  I certainly think that Brady will graduate and move on.  The key question is whether Iowa can find a quick PG who can pay defense and penetrate. There are a lot of things to like about this team but everyone needs to make the commitment to pay better individual and team defense. Not sure who is going to provide the leadership for this but they need it.

I respectfully disagree on the lack of progress. While I am disappointed in the regressive results this year, I am happy with the progress from the dark days of Lickliter. I see the present situation caused by two things. First, both the Junior and Senior classes have been comparative busts, with the best player from that group being a walk-on (Baer). Defensive communication is something learned with time and playing together. The constant deep rotations don't help in that regard either.

Second, Iowa's recruiting focus has shifted to shooting and away from defense. The two players coming in next year are both known as great shooters so probably won't help the defense much. There is a lot of talent coming in the next few years, but we will see if they can play defense.

I’m not one to lightly call for a coach to be fired, but after 6 years we haven’t seen much progress.  I’m definitely in apathy mode at this point when it comes to basketball (at least the men’s team)

It’s been amazing how many times this team has been burnt so easily in half court and in transition. They don’t communicate well, their reaction times are on a 1/2 second delay, they get way out of their positioning set ups, they get beat on dribble-drives to the baseline and paint often, and just look flat-out confused on occasion.  Wasn’t Speraw a coach who, in part, was brought in because of his defensive expertise?  He’s got a lot of work to do, along with any other assistant who is interested in defense.  .

Just don’t get it.  In the good years, the teams had major free falls that could not be explained.  This year’s failure cannot be explained, given the talent.

After all these years, I cannot figure out how Fran’s teams look like they are not communicating.  It’s been better of late, but by now they have forgotten how to win.
