[Herky] Well that sucked

yes, it’s time to look forward to hoops.

Another mediocre (or worse) season for the footballers. Oh well, only 8 more years of Ferentz.

Had to let some hours pass to cool down. I agree that it starts with oline not getting the job done. It’s criminal to be wasting a talent like Wadley.
Early in season I liked Brian’s play calling but either I’m getting more familiar with his tendencies or he’s getting more predictable as I seem to know what play is coming.
Receivers are better this year but their hands are bricks. So bad that I expected the drop in OT.
Felt optimistic after close games with Sparty & Penn St. but enthusiasm for the season is waning. Is it time to look forward to BB?
Go Hawks!
Steve

We already have a new offensive coordinator and a new quarterback. Stanley is going to be a great QB for Iowa, but he is not yet Beathard. We are playing two Freshmen at tackle who will be good in the future, but are struggling now.

Yes, Scott, it is! I do think it starts with the O Line and the head coach

Iowa has to do something to kickstart this offense. Different O Coordinator? New QB? Different offense altogether?

Got to do something, this is very hard to watch.

These things are true, but I’m not ready to give up all hope at this point. I think we can beat Minnesota and Purdue at home, and Nebraska on the road. And just as we shocked Michigan last year, maybe we can steal one from OSU or UW. Ya never know!!!

I would love to see that happen, June, but I don't see it.

Our offense is simply awful. Start with the offensive line; run blocking is ineffective. We cannot get anything around the edges, so STOP calling the reverses and these lateral passes received behind the line of scrimmage. They don't work. The receivers are much better than last year but had a terrible day yesterday with many many dropped passes. Stanley did not have a great day but I am still optimistic about him if the coaches can develop him. But he can't be successful without a good line. There is simply no excuse for the poor line play. Poor recruiting, poor player development, maybe even poor conditioning.

Speaking of conditioning, I am beginning to question ours. I see a lot of hands on hips on a lot of players way too early in the game. In the second half, when we should be dominating, we run out of gas.. Maybe Doyle is just not that good anymore. Maybe the rhabdo thing should have told us that.

Special teams, other than placekicking, is awful. Gersonde's punting better, but not great. The punt returning is terrible. Don't we have a coach who can teach this? Starting every offensive possession behind your own 20 is not good, particularly when your O Line is weak.

Wish the defense had more of a pass rush but really have not much to complain about them. Holding your opponent to 10 should be good enough. The offense is the problem.

We had more fans than jNU yesterday. Loud, loyal fans. We deserve better than the product put out there yesterday.

        Gwen

Stanley threw well. His arm is so “big”. He overthrows often and when he needs to drill it he needs receivers with strong hands. The drop by Fant at the awful end was lack of concentration to complete the catch.

            I think. 😊
