[Herky] One fluke game and the rest meh

It's funny how fans react after a win or a loss. When the N.O. Saints went
0-2 to start the season, the rage was Brees is over the hill and should go,
the coach should go and take the GM with him. Now the Saints have won 8 in
a row and Brees should play until he is 45, the coach is the best in
history, and the GM is a genius

I hope we never get in the SEC mode of firing a coach at a whim. I'm too
old to be a "winning is everything" kind of guy-in the college world, that
is.

That sounds about right, regardless of who is coaching. So Ferentz is the
one who guides the Hawkeyes for the next 7 or 8 years, I assume, then the
next guy comes in and achieves about the same level of wins and losses.
About a .525 to .550 winning percentage overall, about the same in the B1G.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how the offense changes and how much
improvement the young guys make next year. I really like Stanley, I think
he will be a super QB. The young first-year RBs this year looked quite
impressive. The TEs will be strong.

I hope the OL will be too.

Dennis - What is the realistic expectation of what Iowa should do year in
and year out? My expectations are that Iowa will basically be a 7-8 win
team. Some years they will be slightly better and some seasons they will be
slightly worse. Do you think that we can get a coach will consistently win
9 games a year? Kirk and Hayden are two Hall of Fame coaches and they could
not. If we fire Kirk who do we get that will do better? Maybe we get a Matt
Campbell but maybe we get a Todd Lickliter. And I don't think a Matt
Campbell does any better than Kirk or Hayden. He just gives us a change.

-----

When I look at these facts about the offense I am much more likely to wait
for next year to see what a BF offense will really look like.

- an entirely new staff on offense (either new to the staff or new to a
position they had not coached before or both)

- a new playbook (all new terminology, etc)

- a first year QB with no previous experience.

- two FR offensive tackles.

- two young TE's who still need some time in the weight room and hence are
not very good at blocking (one playing his first year)

- all new WR's when compared to last year. The only returning WR (MVB) does
not appear to be the same guy that was so good two years ago.

You are likely correct in your assessment. We will have to endure
mediocrity in the football program, except for an anomalous season here and
there where the team wins 10 plus games and gets a decent bowl.

Enjoy the ride everyone!

Bret Bielema is soon to be available.

It sounds like I'm in the minority here, but firing KFz isn't the answer
here. For those who want him fired, who do you really think Iowa will get
that would be better?

Scott, if Kirk were to go, would be on the short list to replace him?

If the Hawks are 6-6, do they deserve a bowl game? IMHO no. Will they get
one? Probably. Will they get crushed? More than likely.

The same plays run over and over and they work 1 time for 6 yards, maybe.
Short side sweep? High school offense. More pass attempts on first down is
good, but the leadership is just not there.

That has to be on KFz. Brian Fz can call the wonderful plays they want but
if the Hawks don't have the horses to get it done, then it's all for naught.

Kirk needs to go. The new line coach? I know he has a true Freshman at
right tackle and RS Freshman at left tackle. They will be better next year
and the year after that.

Kirk needs to go. What happened to our WR and dropping passes? I
understand Nate S is a Soph. And I understand that dropped passes happen
occasionally. But this is a pattern.

Kirk needs to go. I feel sorry for Butler & Wadley being wasted this year.
Up the middle, up the middle, short side sweep, short side sweep. Put them
at a flanker spot and toss them the ball. Like a long handoff.

Kirk needs to go. Kevin O'Fricking my Keefe. Did Stanley improve over the
course of the year? IMHO no.

Kirk needs to go. The punt game is worse than high school. Kick off, PAT,
FG seem solid. Get a Junior College punter for god's sake.

Kirk needs to go.

Finally, I'll end this rant with these 4 words: Kirk needs to go.

Rant over

Scott
