Gunther, who was the 5 seed at 165 goes 6-1 in his first WB. 7 qualify from the BT at 165 so no automatic spot for him.

Another Hawk that gave up back points.

I was wrong - BT gets 9 spots at 141 so Carton will still have a chance at an automatic qualification.

Carton (the 6 seed at 141) loses in his first WB match and is eliminated so he will not even be top 8. He will not get an automatic qualifier spot. He is probably borderline to get an at large bid for NCAA's. In the matches he lost he gave up back points early and could not make it up.

First round is over and Iowa has 5 in the semi's and 5 still alive in the consolation. Many other results have gone in Iowa's favor increasing the chance for Iowa advancing guys to the finals. Suriano (PSU - 125) forfeited out. Montoya (133 Neb #2 seed) loses in 133. Jackson (174 #3 seed) hurts his knee right at the end of his last match. He won but probably won't be at full strength or may not even wrestle and he is Brooks opponent in semi's. Tyler Berger loses at 157 so Kemerer will not have to beat him for the third time this year. I think Iowa is wrestling to seed so far which is not going to be good enough. Biggest disappointment so far is Meyer last match - got taken down 4 times in first period and lost 11-6. PSU has few weak spots in their line-up but it does not matter. Their top guys are just so dominant and they are pinning guys while the top guys for Iowa are winning by decisions.

My predictions based on what I have seen so far today:

PSU - 7 in semi - advance 4 to finals with 4 championships

Ohio State - 7 in semi - advance 3 to finals with 1-2 championships

Iowa - 5 in semi - advance 5 to finals with 1-2 championships

My toss up match is Clark (IA) and Tomasello (OSU) at 133.
