[Herky] Davis retires as OC

Davis system had the receivers making reads and then running a pattern based on that. Supposedly it was complicated and hard for younger receivers to pick up.  I think  it also led to a lot of patterns being run at less than full speed  because of the uncertainty. When you are limited athletically you need to be going full speed.

Agree overwhelmingly with the "need some receivers" comments.  It appeared to me all year long that our receivers just could not get open for anything but short stuff.  CJ is/was not afraid to go down field.  But you have to have someone there.  Our best burner, Jermicick(?) Smith didn't ever make a splash.


And of course it's not just the receivers speed and expertise that matters.  The coordinator plays a role in creating space through wile and guile.  I don't think Davis was especially adept at this.
