[Herky] Davis retires as OC

The running game will look similar no matter who we get. This is the part of the offense that Kirk Ferentz owns. But even there we have seen some differences and changes under Brian Ferentz that have I think made it better. The biggest issue with the OL is that we have guards playing tackle. That is a recruiting/development issue not a scheme issue. I see no reason for radical changes to the running game. I see no reason for not wanting to run at least 50% of the time.

The passing game looked very different under the two OCs. I don't think Kirk has a set opinion in this area. I don't watch much pro football but I think New England has a pretty good passing game. Brian Ferentz worked with the TE's at NE so perhaps he brings parts of that passing scheme to Iowa. He also has exposure under both OCs so I think he can see what works and what does not. He is also much younger so I think he will be more open to trying different things. I think Kirk wants a balanced offense and I don't think he is locked to a specific type of passing scheme.

I think you bring in some other guys to inteview and if you can find someone better than Brian than hire them. I tend to think it will be Brian and I don't think that is all bad. Along with Brian hire David Rath who is a former QB and current Asst OL coach at Green Bay. Between Brian and David I think you have the OL and the QB covered for coaching.

I would honestly hope we get someone with new ideas to go against/along with the run of the mill stuff from KFz.

Having Brian may make it more of the same.

I would rather have him doing well with the OL for a few more years.

KFz appears be a very good man to work under and hope we get an excellent replacement for Davis.

Does Brian take over or someone else? Does Kennedy survive? Was the issue with the system or his teaching?

It was an awesome game from the players point of view.

The effort was beyond expectations and are actually playing at a high level.

Cannot wait for the rest of the season and the next three years.

I just hope the health gods stay on their side and we may be in the final four after all.

Though, I was a little disappointed with the coaching in the last few seconds of regulation and OTs.

With 17 seconds on the clock, a TO should have been called to have a set play or induce a foul at the basket.

Instead the players wasted time and blew a chance to win in regulation.

The last minute in reg was weird as we were playing to keep the ball and kill time and no offensive sets.

Maybe, Jok was tired in the end to be very effective

Disappointed with the result but gladdened by the effort.

I just find it hard to be negative about last night’s game with so many young players. Hardly a whisper about how Jok put this team on his back and carried it to two overtimes.

Nebby is a pretty good team. I thought Iowa played very well on the road and I am proud of this team for that. They almost pulled it out in regular time and the first OT.

Yes, we got lucky with their two missed FT at the end, but they were lucky, too at other times. If anyone is expecting perfect play night in and night out, you will be disappointed and will gripe night in and night out.

I am not referring to honest, critical assessments of how the game was played. Points are understood. I guess I get cranky when the tone is so negative.

As was mentioned already, this was a good, entertaining game. I am positive about the rest of the season and seasons to come.
