[Herky] Kentucky Guard C.J. Fredrick Commits To Iowa Basketball for 2018

At 165 lbs, he probably needs to redshirt to gain weight. Rob Howe and Tom Kakert have talked to Fredrick and say Fredrick is willing to take the risk of paying his own way the first year if no scholarship opens up for 2018. A recent podcast with Sherm Dillard said Iowa is focusing on recruiting great shooters and this is an example of that. Fredrick may have enough combo guard skills to play the point if needed in Iowa's "position-less" system where anyone can bring the ball up court.. Bohannon may really be an undersized shooting guard rather than a true pass first point guard.

This makes no sense to me since the only available 2018 basketball scholarship is going to Joe Wieskamp. Does Fran McCaffery know someone is leaving? Could Tyler Cook have told Fran he is declaring after this year or has another player informed Fran he will leave? Both Wieskamp and Fredrick are shooting guards and we already have Moss for 3 more years. The biggest position of need would seem to be point guard, where we have no depth behind Bohannon.
