[Herky] Issues Iowa needs to correct

I read numerous articles in the preseason that said Iowa had one of the top 5 OL in the country. It was supposed to be a big strength. What we have learned for sure is that we have no depth. I think Jon Miller said it well. We have 5 very good linemen (when healthy) but they are all guards.

IMHO KFz has always been predictable. Some coaches have said it out loud, some have inferred it. Some years he has the horses like last year, some not. My feeling is this was going to be a bit of a transition year. D line was supposed to be very good, over all D pretty good. O line was the big mystery. NDSU did the Hawks a disservice by exposing how bad our O line is. They will get better by the end of the year but will Bethard survive it? Our running backs are pretty good, nothing world beating but I don’t care if you have Bo Jackson or Emmit Smith back there, if the O line can’t open holes, it won’t matter. As this article points out, Iowa appears to be sinking in the quicksand of conservative predictability. I was thinking that we now have personnel that can be a little more athletic and innovative. Subject: [Herky] CJBI don't know if what this writer says is confirmed but CJB has shown pretty much zero mobility. He, more often than not, stands in one place in the pocket and is taking some huge hits, even if he gets the pass off. Everything I have read is that the knee was 100% and the brace was just a precaution. I am beginning to wonder if that is the case. Put together these three factors and you have some big issues (1) QB with no mobility (especially when his biggest strength was his ability to create when scrambling) (2) WRs that have real problem creating separation on their own. (3) An OL is below average in providing protection. Expect to see more of what we saw from NDSU. Extra guy to stop the run. Create 3rd and long and then lots of blitzes. https://www.landof10.com/big-ten/big-ten-injury-report-corey-clement-and-c-j-beathard-lead-durability-questions-into-conference-play
