Last year the coaches opened up the game a little and didn’t toe the line with conservative play as much. Didn’t happen today, as I see it.

Watching a lot of football today has me worried. Iowa’s level of play so far vs. about 20 other teams is not close. I am hopeful that things will follow form as in prior years when the Hawks get better as time goes by.

Oh, yes, I still think NDSU is a real fine football team.

Wow really good point

Add that to my rant
WE are supposed to play ball control and wear out opposing teams. Did not happen and that is pathetic

Another case of playing not to lose - Ferentz 1.0 Iowa would have been better off if NDSU had made the 2 point conversion. Then they would have had to play to win. I really thought we were going to see our FR kicker attempting a FG for the win.

Look at the time of possession if you want to see why the defense was so tired.

North Dakota State has a very good team and could hang in any Power Five conference. This game was going to be close. No holding call on the long run, the way the fumble by the NDSU guy bounced away from the end zone and other plays could have turned the game the other way.

I wonder why, just like in past years, the Hawks seem to tire at the end of the game and just cannot keep up. The defense was a half a step slow from the start of the second half.

It’s easy to second guess. I don’t have the playbook and I don’t know the circumstances. CJ may have been hurting at the end. I thought, when we received the last kickoff with about 3 ½ minutes to go, that we couldn’t run the clock out by running the ball. It just wasn’t there. I would not have been surprised if we would have tried some short, safe play action passes to gain a few yards each time. So what if we go out of bounds and the clock stops if we could pick up a first down or two? We had not been gaining on runs throughout the 2nd half, so what was to change? And the Bison blitz on third down was expected by anyone with any sense of game strategy. That last series to me was the most disappointing part of the game.

Iowa was not pathetic or terrible or anything like that IMO. Iowa played a very good team and came up short. It shouldn’t have been that way, but this game was never going to be a blowout. If Iowa was terrible, we would have been the team being blown out.

This is a really disappointing loss. Just real tough. And tough to forget. We just need to pull one out that we are not supposed to win.

  Team loss
They had better game plan and executed it to perfection
  Hawks were pathetic
Sorry to say that but just awful

All is not lost. Call it a learning experience and beat the holy hell out of Wisconsin, etc.
    Go, Hawkeyes!!

They did more than hand around. They dominated on both lines in the second half. They were the better team and deserved to win. I think Davis did a very poor job of calling plays today. Just kept trying to do the same thing when it did not work all game.
