[Herky] NCAA Wrestling Finals

All three Iowa guys go down. All were clearly beaten by the better wrestler this night. Iowa finishes in 5th place. The announcers said it was the first time since 2005 or 2006 that they have finished off the podium (top 4). We clearly need a Brands 2.0. I don't know the answer but the recruits they are getting or the style of wrestling or training or maybe all of them is not what it needs to be and they are not getting it done.
I will say that I think this years finals was the best one that I can remember. Many exciting matches. They still have some work to do in calling stalling to encourage more wrestling. They have certain things defined which the refs call and that helps but other stuff is obvious stalling (like Megaloudis backing away from Gilman for half the match with no stalling) and is very inconsistent if called at all. One thing I don't understand - If the guy on the bottom stands up and you are behind you have 5 seconds to take him back to the mat or release him (unless you go out of bounds) or you get a stall call. However if as the guy stands up you throw a leg in you can stand in that position for as long as the ref lets it go until a stalemate is called - not stalling. I don't understand the difference. Both are just hanging on to prevent an escape.

Iowa pretty much lays an egg in the Medal round. They are currently in 4th place. They need to win one of their 3 finals to finish 3rd. If they go 0-3 ( a real possibility) and Ohio St wins one (I think Snyder wins at 285) then they will finish 5th. This is what Iowa wrestling has become a 3rd -5th place team.

Iowa wins 3 of 4 in the semi's. Gilman, Clark and Sorensen win. Burak loses. Meyer and Brooks are also AA and will go for 7th place tomorrow. PSU basically has the title clinched. The battle is for second. Iowa will not be favored in any of the final matches so they will need a couple of upsets to have any chance. My guess is that Iowa finishes 4th.
Brooks match against Abounader was pretty exciting. Brooks give up early TD. He escapes and then throws Ab to his back. There is about 1:20 left in the first period and Brooks had him good. I would say a pin is 90%+ likely. But one of the refs comes in and stops the action thinking there was an illegal hold. There was not but the chance at a pin was gone. Brands was very excited which was not a surprise. But Ryan Morningstar was much more excited. Brands was having to hold him back. But not quick enough as Iowa was deducted one team point.

Gilman, Clark, Sorensen and Burak advance to the semi-finals. Brooks loses. His loss will make a run for second place pretty difficult.

Rhoads loses his consolation match and is eliminated.
Meyer comes back and beats the #4 seed in his first wrestleback.
I assume Stoll will Med Forfeit.

After Championship section of Round 2 (consolation matches still on going). Iowa wins 5 of 6. Cooper is the lone loser. No surprising that he lost but he was dominated before the quick fall.

Iowa goes 6-3 in the first round. Meyers is upset and Stoll inj defaults. PSU went 8-1 in the first round with lots of bonus points. Ohio State goes 6-2 with even more bonus points.
I tend to be pretty negative but Iowa chances at a title are basically 0% now. But they were probably only 5% coming in.
