[Herky] Game

1. I think our guys were collectively a little intimated last night in
their first visit to Maryland.

2. Maryland's defense was stifling. Utoff had a hard time seeing
daylight.

3. My guess is a lot of our guys had down biorhythms. They just were not
sharp.

4. Give me a neutral floor and a normal Iowa team, and we beat these
guys without question.

5. I hate the loss, but a 17-1 record in the B1G ain' so bad.

6. Will 4-6 losses hurt us in getting a 1 seed?

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) - Men

The requirements of this association are not as stringent as compared to the
National Basketball League (NBA) or International Basketball Federation
(FIBA). A size 7 ball is the standard for men's tournaments. The
circumference measures between 29.5 and 30 inches, and the ball has a weight
in the range of 20 and 22 oz. Ultimately, there has to be a bounce 49 to 54
inches in height, if it is dropped from 6 feet.

Another observation from the last few games. I think Clemmons is now a
better player than Gesell. This is not a nock on Gesell as I think he has
improved every year. It is just a testimony to all the hard work Clemmons
has put in and the dramatic improvement he has made.

Jeff,

Seeing so many balls being short of the net made me wonder if the team was
sick or something.

It was bad to see that the entire team was off the boil except for AW.

AW had a very good game and hope he started playing like this in his Jr
year.

I was still upset with him for not finishing off a couple of baskets at the
net early in the game and that pretty much was the difference in the game.

Uthoff was not a factor the whole game due to good defense by Maryland.
Gesell is very good when he is running the offense , getting assists and
playing defense. He is not very good at taking the ball to the hoop against
good teams and shooting FT's (especially at the end of the game).
Unfortunately it was the latter that he did this game (and the open drives
at the end when we needed a 3 do not count). He missed the front end of a
1-1 when they were down by two 64-62.

Not sure if it was due to Maryland defense or the crowd getting to them but
Iowa made a lot of really dumb passes and bad shots. I don't think I have
ever watched so many air balls and other shots that had no chance by one
team. Guys looked really timid on their shots.

Only got to see the last 6 minutes or so due to taking a class on Thursdays.
Saw Jok get 2 shots blocked w/Dakich moaning about no shot fake. How come
ball wasn't in Utoff's hands more down the stretch?

Gasel has 9 TO's over last 2 games with less assists. He also got most of
his points uncontested in last 2 min. Senior PG has to do better.

Maryland was favored so no big deal Hawks lost but watching last few min.
seemed to me that game was there for the taking.

Go Hawks!

Not to beat a dead horse but what a HUGE home court advantage at places like
Maryland and Ames compared to Carver.

Tough loss but no shame in losing a close one on the road early in the BT
season. Woodbury and their

at center played a huge role down the stretch.

Now, to move on to Purple at Carver on Sunday!

Schooled may be a little harsh, but shooting was terrible.
