Nice story, Jim. 

 

According to the biography of John Heisman, back in those days players did not have to be students at the university, often played for 6 or 7 years for the same team, and in a normal year 15-20 players died from football injuries.

 

Georgia Tech and Yale were powerhouses, and teams from the “West” were considered to be in the minor leagues.
