[Herky] US Olympic Wrestling Trials

Dennis wins the first match in a snoozefest 2-1. Tony Ramos has forgotten what a shot attempt looks like.  Dennis took a lot of shots but none were that close to TD.  Ramos got put on the clock twice and Dennis once which was the difference in the match.

Ramos MO seems to be to stall most of the match, not letting the other guy score and hope to get a score off the other guys shot or maybe getting one good shot off for a TD. It has been very effective in US competition over the last two years as this was his first loss in that time.   To a lesser degree it is also what we have seen in Metcalf. Both have become really cautious.  The new rules have resulted in most wrestlers opening up more but not so for Ramos and Metcalf.
Dennis has looked very good today. He seems to keep really good position. Good offense and defense.

Tony Ramos and Daniel Dennis advance to the best of three finals tonight at 57 kg guaranteeing that Iowa will have one guy at Rio.  Tom will be in one corner and Terry in the other.

All of the matches in all 3 types are being streamed - http://stream.nbcsports.com/
I have only watched the men's freestyle. While I don't like the results so far I do have to say that the new rules have made this style really fun to watch.

Off to a terrible start if you are an Iowa fan. Telford loses his first match and then Metcalf loses his first match.  I think they are the only two going today. Tomorrow Dennis and Ramos go at 57 kg.
