*A CY-HAWK SWEEP*
/Iowa races to 7-0 lead in 2015-16 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series/
*IOWA CITY, Iowa --* It was a very good Friday and Saturday for the
UNiversity of Iowa Hawkeyes. Three events against their intrastate
rivals in the 2015-16 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series and three victories
recorded. Here's a look at each...

*SATURDAY: IOWA FOOTBALL*
/Ferentz's squad dominates 2nd half/

*AMES, Iowa* -- King and his court captured the jewel of traveling
crowns Saturday, invading Jack Trice Stadium and bringing the Cy-Hawk
Trophy back to shiny, new Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance
Center in Iowa City.

And the Hawkeyes did it playing with heaviness in the heart. On Tuesday,
University of Iowa great Tyler Sash passed away at the age of 27. A
native Iowan, Sash thrived on and in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series
against rival Iowa State. Every Iowa player wore Sash's No. 9 on the
left side of their helmet during the game.
Sash would have flashed his trademark smile with this outcome.
Trailing 17-10 at halftime, the Hawkeyes ground out a game-tying
touchdown in the third quarter, then erupted for 14 points in the final
2 minutes, 14 seconds to come away with a 31-17 victory over Iowa State.
"People outside the state don't know how competitive this (rivalry) is,"
UI head coach Kirk Ferentz said. "I'm proud of our team; I thought they
really grew in the second half. We got tested, (Iowa State) played a
great first half, our guys rallied."
Junior cornerback/punt returner Desmond King struck twice in the final 6
½ minutes to put the Hawkeyes in position to take the lead and then seal
victory. His 34-yard punt return put the ball at midfield with 6:08 left
and set up a game-winning 25-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback
C.J. Beathard to junior wide receiver Riley McCarron four minutes later.
It was McCarron's first catch of the season.
On the next Cyclone series, King stepped in front of a pass from Sam B.
Richardson that was intended for Jauan Wesley that essentially sealed
the final outcome.
"That was a big, big play," Ferentz said of King's punt return. "To get
it (from the 6) out to midfield was big."

*FRIDAY: IOWA VOLLEYBALL*
/Shymansky's squad records 'gritty, gutty' win/
**
*IOWA CITY, Iowa* --In front of the fifth largest crowd in program
history, the University of Iowa volleyball team trumped the Cyclones,
3-1, for the first time since Sept. 13, 1997.
<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0015x4DKZxH-vze2XntcN93jmPyU9REupx4rGwN5FM6KKGim-Gk9cznlmjrx9kkRBDjBVjr6WE45N93bOdgMpgTnaI4G8xTwynqbiuT_HHvC6m_qPXxVKT0Q_cQf9YIGgCXYUtLHL9dvxfIBmv6KBxB5SlS0LXvudm1LltqCPrcUsYifs7RhzVm_nRsZV9-7DkV&c=2yz1p1aNj1keyJyPGZn1cgObPQOzs5iHlDVkroOUQG83WDRbfy-5uQ==&ch=_BDkIN3RmfaOj-FnMo5VScknw7F3-QsWX3IHJQSs7d4uV4BSyk3Fxw==>
"It was a gritty, gutty win for us, especially right there at the end,"
said UI head coach Bond Shymansky. "I knew our group was not going to
fold up and go away at the end of that fourth set. They just did such a
fantastic job.
"I'm a Hawkeye, I'm an Iowa alum, and I'm a die-hard Hawkeye. I don't
just work here I bleed black and gold and so for us to beat the Cyclones
at anything I get excited."
The Hawkeyes used a .379 attack percentage and a season-high 66 kills to
beat the Cyclones in four sets. The win marks the third-straight victory
for the Hawkeyes who are now 5-3 on the season.
Sophomore Jess Janota had a career night, tallying a career-high 20
kills and posting a .514 attack percentage. Junior Lauren Brobst (17)
and freshman Reagan Davey (10) also reached double digits in kills.
Junior Loxley Keala dished out a season-high 55 assists, freshman Libby
Koukol paced the team with a career-high 18 digs, and senior Mikaela
Gunderson led the team with four blocks.
"We're not rebuilding anymore. We're built," said Shymansky. "This team
is built to win and it's just going to be a question of how much we want
to win, and how hard we will work to obtain what we should be this year.
We are already showing that."

*FRIDAY: IOWA WOMEN'S SOCCER*
/DiIanni's squad continues its dominance/
**
*IOWA CITY, Iowa* -- Junior Tory Harman's first career goal sent the
University of Iowa soccer team to a 1-0 victory over in-state rival Iowa
State in the opening event of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Friday
night at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes have won six of the last
seven meetings in the series.

"Both teams fought hard tonight, it was a good competitive game," said
head coach Dave DiIanni. "We have a lot of respect for the season Iowa
State is having this year and we knew only a top level effort would do."
The Hawkeyes lone goal came in the first six minutes of the game when
freshman Karsen Rauch sent a corner kick into the box that Harman headed
out of the hands of ISU goalkeeper Lindsey Henden and into the net.
"It was very physical. That's the nature of the rivalry. They are a
strong team filled with a lot of upperclassmen," said DiIanni. "We knew
physically we had to show up and battle for 50-50 balls. We thought we
were more mobile than they were. In the first 70 minutes of the game, we
moved the ball well against them."
