[Herky] Fired Charlie Weis still highest paid Notre Dame coach on payroll - Chicago Tribune

Supply and demand. ND wanted a coach they thought could win big and offered him enough money to leave the NFL. The results weren't there and ND decided to go in another direction and opted to pay Weis not to coach as per the contract both parties agreed to. Pretty simple.
