[Herky] Unbelievable!!!

I agree about the bowls. The Rose is so much better than the Cotton. I’ve been to both (Cotton more) and there is no comparison. It can be cold and windy. At least I believe they now play in the Jerry Dome, but getting there and back is no easy task

I watched the replay twice on BTN yesterday and #75 did hold our #44 before the final play finished. I guess the referee was not in the right spot or too timid. However, the Rose Bowl is much better than the Cotton Bowl experience in my view.

Precisely, Dennis! I can't erase from my mind the cockeyed vision of said Hawkeye defender smacking the football to the high Heavens and Iowa then recovers it in the end zone.

I (ridiculously) conjure up a fantastic dream picture of our stalwart defenders jumping up and down in glorious victory as the ref signals Hawkeyes' ball and remaining seconds wind down.

I can envision the ensuing news media headline: "Hundreds of Hawkeye fans hurt storming the field but they don't care a damn bit".

A silly dream but, in perspective, in time I hope we accept wonderful truth we already have had a dream season --- with the incredible morale-boosting reality of the Rose bowl against an excellent opponent and the fun of watching Stanford's politically incorrect marching band perform it's irreverent antics.

Let's enjoy the good times accepting that all the frustrating "what if?" questions probably will forever haunt😑😕😯😣 the hidden recesses of every rabid Hawkeye minds!

Go Hawkeyes now and forever, come what may😂! And tell my stubborn "what if" mind to shut the FUG up!

I could add to ridiculously zany final play analysis by noting a credible football ref told me there was a moment in the fatal play at the goal line when forward progress of the ball carrier definitely was stopped and a whistle should have ended an attempt at forward motion while--get this, a Stanford lineman without doubt was quite visibly holding off a sure tackler. Ah, the frustrating acumen of a good eye!

In looking at that last TD on video, it appears #49? for Iowa came in late to help with the tackle, and went in low. Had he gone high, he may have been able to knock the ball out of Smith’s hand.

I am not trying to go all negative. The play count in the second half was MSU 56 and Iowa 16. Iowa defense was on the field for almost the entire second half and yet they still almost stopped MSU. They played great and I don't think there is another defense in the country that could have done what they did. Incredible heart.

Not looking to next year yet unless you mean Jan 1. I am really excited about Stanford in the Rose bowl. I think the team will be also after a couple of days to get over this loss.

Anyone see how #75 tackled Jewell as he was about to stop Smith on the TD run at the two yard line. I thought it was just a great run by Smith but it was really a blatant penalty by an MSU OL that allowed Smith to get away from Josey and get in the end zone. (After Jewell was taken down Smith did do a great job to get the TD)

Let’s don’t get too negative about the Iowa team or the game. There were plenty of negative statements to make about MSU if you want to get picky. This game was a toss-up from the start. The last first down on the 2 ½ yard line could have gone a foot less and Iowa would have had the ball. The MSU interception in the first quarter was a fluke. Etc. etc. etc. The ball bounced MSU’s way once more than Iowa.

This game showed that Iowa is a really good team. Now is not the time to go negative. Instead, I look to the positives and look forward to next year when our core players will be back.

MSU would beat Iowa more times than not because their DL would manhandle the Iowa OL the every game like they did in this game.

Iowa's defense got tired because they were on the field all game (almost 40 minutes). I thought the DL still did a pretty good job. The YAC were often the result of poor tackling. I really got tired of watching the two safeties try to tackle by throwing a shoulder into the runner looking for the big hit rather than wrapping up and taking the runner/receiver down. The final TD for MSU was a perfect example. The got penetration and could have easily tackled him for a loss. But in the end none of the 5 or 6 guys could wrap up and make a tackle.

I’m not sure MSU is the better team. But their offensive line really man-handled the Iowa DL in the second half. Number 3 got a whole lot of YAC in that 22 play, 9 minute drive.

I hope MSU goes 2-0 and Iowa 1-0 in their post-season games. BTW, BTN just said that the Rose Bowl will select the team with the highest ranking. I think the Hawks may still be ranked higher than the Buckeyes, but who knows for sure.

Tough loss but MSU was the better team. Defense just ran out of gas. Offense basically could not move the ball and then the make it even worse with the turnovers.

Giving Cook the MVP trophy was the dumbest thing I can think of. He played poorly (much of that due to the Iowa defense)
